A. Curriculum Provision
In addition to language skill courses like Intensive Chinese Reading, Chinese Listening, as well as Chinese Listening and Writing, the major in Chinese Language also sets different professional courses according to the characteristics of each professional specialism.
1.Chinese Language and Culture
Each specialism trains well-rounded, interdisciplinary talents in systematic knowledge of Chinese language and culture, basic knowledge and understanding of Chinese society, history, literature, philosophy and cross-cultural communication, cultivating students’ inner quality and intercultural communicative competence, as well as their ability to engage in translation and cultural exchange.
Major courses include Chinese Culture, Chinese History, Chinese Social Customs, Pre-Qin Philosophers Review, Current Issues, and Foreign Cultural Exchanges.
2.Business Chinese
This specialized subject trains applied talents in professional terminology and basic knowledge of international trade, knowledge and understanding of Chinese business culture and business etiquette. Graduates have strong business qualities, and are able to apply their Chinese proficiency to related work in all kinds of Chinese and foreign business organizations.
Major courses include Business Chinese, Business Culture, Media Economy, Chinese Economic Profile, Economic Activity Cases, and International Trade.
3.Chinese Education
This specialism trains specialized talents in knowledge of Chinese Ontology, Chinese Culture as well as Education and Educational Psychology, cultivating basic qualities of a Chinese teacher, familiarization with Chinese as a Second Language teaching methods, the ability to engage in Chinese teaching overseas and the ability apply Chinese language skills to other related fields.
Major courses include Modern Chinese, Ancient Chinese, The General Theory of Classroom Teaching, Elements of Chinese Teaching Method, Chinese Information Retrieval and Applied Educational Psychology.

B. Evaluation Method
The final performance grade for most of courses consists of three parts, 30% general performance (15%a attendance and 15% classroom performance and homework), 30% midterm exam grade and 40% final exam grade. A final performance grade equal or greater than 60 is considered passing, enabling students to earn the corresponding curriculum credits. The specific curriculum calculation method is described under “Undergraduate Course Introduction.”
The semester average scores are calculated by average GPA:
GPA= Course credits × test scores
Semester average scores = average GPA = The sum of GPA of all courses / the total course credits
Students who ask for a leave for one-third (inclusive) of the total semester hours are not allowed to take the midterm/final exam, and test scores are recorded as an absence. If a student is absent from class without leave and these hours reach one-fifth of the total semester hours, he/she will not be allowed take the midterm/final exam. Students are not allowed to take the midterm/final exam for unselected or withdrawal courses; if students take the exam, the results shall be considered invalid.
