Description of International Cooperation and Joint Postgraduate Training Program in the College of Chinese Language and Culture
Currently, the College has established cooperative relationships with many foreign universities. In accordance with the approaches and contents of cooperation, the following types of cooperation exist:
A. Co-building Confucius Institute
According to the unifiedplanning of NOCFL/Confucius Institute Headquartersand Beijing Normal University, the main approach of cooperation isto co-build Confucius Institutes with foreign universities, with the College of Chinese Language and Culture functioning as the main organizer. In addition to carrying out specific matters pertaining to the Confucius Institute, the College of Chinese Language and Culture also sends the Dean on the Chinese side, as well as postgraduates of foreign universities, to undergo local professional internship.At present, Beijing Normal University has co-built nine Confucius Institutes with foreign universities.Among those Confucius Institutes, the College directs the task of co-building Confucius Institutes with San Francisco State University and Manchester University. Every year, the College sends one to two teachers and a number of postgraduates with a Master's degree in MTCSOL to teach locally, culminating inimportant contributions tolocal Chinese language pedagogy, faculty training and cultural exchanges.Their outstanding performances earn unanimous praises from the local Chinese embassies and consulates, NOCFL, and cooperative institutions. In 2011, the Confucius Institute at San Francisco State University was named an Outstanding Confucius Institute.

B. Cooperation in Running Schools
The main approach to cooperation is inter-university collaboration on Chinese language teaching. The College of Chinese Language and Culture sends teachers to teach in foreign universities, and foreign universities send students to participate in the short-term and long-term Chinese language learning and credit courses at BNU. The College of Chinese Language and Culture is responsible for the teaching, guidance and management services for those students. C. Multi-disciplinary Cooperation Research
The main approach to cooperation is to build a cooperation framework and take a flexible approach to cooperating in the fields of teacher-student interaction, teaching of language and culture, academic researches, joint application of research projects, etc. Such cooperation mainly involves the following institutions:

D. Joint Postgraduate Training and Student Exchange Programs
1. Joint-degree and Local Teacher Certification Programs
Our college signed the joint postgraduate training agreement with St. Cloud State University and Union Graduate College. Under the agreement, graduate students in the College of Chinese Language and Culture who earn the required credits and complete their graduate theses in accordance with the requirements of Beijing Normal University can earn an MA from Beijing Normal University. During this term, students who meet the cooperative university’s entry requirements may apply to study at the cooperative university. Students who obtain the required credits and complete their graduate theses can earn a Master’s Degree from the cooperative university. During the study period or after graduation, students can take relevant courses and do internships at local schools according to teaching arrangements. Those who pass the examinations and assessments can receive US primary and secondary school teaching certificates, and obtain employment in the local primary and secondary schools. The cooperative university gives partial scholarships to Beijing Normal University and helps to arrange student apartments.
2. Joint-Degree Program
Our college signed a postgraduate joint degree training agreement with Kanazawa University. Under the agreement, graduate students in the College of Chinese Language and Culture who earn the required credits and complete their graduate theses in accordance with the requirements of Beijing Normal University can earn an MA from Beijing Normal University. During this term, students whomeet the cooperative university’s entry requirements may apply to study at the cooperative university. Students who obtain the required credits and complete their graduate theses canearn a Master’s Degree from the cooperative university. The entry requirements will be published at the beginning of each new term, which generally requiring students to have a foundation in Japanese. Following application and admission, Kanazawa University will help students to apply for scholarships, assist the students in applying for housing and provide some positions as teaching or research assistants.
3. Student Exchange Program
Our College signed a student exchange cooperative program with Japan’s Kanagawa University. BNU graduate students who have completed at least one semester in the College of Chinese Language and Culture and pass Kanagawa University’s selection examare eligible to study at Kanagawa University as exchange students for a single semester or anentire academic year. Those students who have passed the selection exam are exempt from Kanagawa University tuitionfees. Kanagawa University provides students with on-campus housing and arranges for students to assist teachers with research or teaching. The College of Chinese Language and Culture will recognize credits and grades obtained from Kanagawa University.
