Full-time Professional Master of International Chinese Education
A.Training Objectives
This major is to train international Chinese teachers with strong adaptability and comprehensive Chinese teaching and cultural communication skills in accordance with practical, compound and international talent training requirements. It organically integrates Chinese knowledge, foreign language ability, cultural literacy, cultural transmission ability, intercultural communication ability and teaching skills by emphasizing both language and culture, classroom teaching and professional practice, and by adding other courses of Chinese talents and skills. Graduates in this major should be able to engage in Chinese language teaching in all levels of schools and teaching institutions, and can also work on Chinese or Chinese culture-related affairs in government departments, companies or enterprises.
B. The Period of Schooling
Chinese students and foreign students who do not enjoy the Chinese government scholarship adapt to a 3-year academic system, and foreign students who enjoy Chinese government scholarship adapt to a 2 to 3-year academic system.
C. Study Modes
Chinese students and foreign students who do not enjoy the Chinese government scholarship: In the 1st year, all the students should complete major degree courses under a high-density teaching program; In the 2nd year, Chinese students should in principle go overseas for an internship of teaching Chinese, and foreign students who enjoy Chinese government scholarships must return to their motherlands for internship; In the 3rd year, all of them come back and continue to take courses, write graduation thesis and attend the thesis defense. Foreign students who enjoy Chinese government scholarships: They should take required courses in the 1st and 2nd semester, return to their motherlands for internship and complete the opening procedure in the 3rd semester, and accomplish the thesis and the final defense in the 4th semester.
D. Training Modes
This major implements a training system featuring a combination of curriculum learning and professional practice, international Chinese education and Chinese cultural communication, as well as supervisor guidance and internship instructor guidance.
E. Academic Credit Requirements and Curriculum Setting
1. Academic Credit Requirements
(1) Chinese students: public compulsory courses, professional compulsory courses, limited courses, elective courses and teaching internship. No less than 36 credits in total.
The detailed requirements are as follows:
Public compulsory courses: 6 credits (politics, 2 credits+foreign language, 4 credits)
Professional compulsory courses: 12 credits (made up of core courses)
Limited courses: 8 credits (consisting of extended courses and training courses)
Elective courses: 4 credits (containing professional elective courses and public elective courses and the former no less than 2 credits)
Teaching internship: 6 credits
(2) Foreign students: public compulsory courses, professional compulsory courses, limited courses, elective courses and teaching internship. No less than 34 credit in total.

F. Teaching Internship Management
During the internship, the College or the enterprises should arrange instructors for guidance, and the students should submit the internship plan. After the internship is completed, the students should submit the internship report, the internship unit appraisal remarks and other relevant materials.
G. Dissertation Writing and Final Defense
The thesis is an important indicator for evaluating graduate students' research and innovative capabilities. The master dissertation of International Chinese Education should be closely integrated with and serve the practice of this field, showing high practicality and applicability. The topic of the thesis should have certain academic significance and application value.
The types of papers can be diverse, such as research reports, teaching practice reports, typical case studies, instructional designs and studies on special topics. The research can be theoretical, applied or comprehensive and is highly encouraged to transform theories into practice. Students are expected to propose feasible solutions to the problems in real teaching through investigation and study.
The dissertation should be completed independently by the student under the guidance of the supervisor. It should put forward new ideas and use creative methods on the basis of the domestic and overseas research status of the selected subject. It should meet the requirement of the academic norms and the materials presented should be detailed and reliable. It generally includes Abstract (both in Chinese and English), Introduction, Literature Review, Body, Conclusion, References and Appendices when needed. It generally totals no more than 30,000 words with concept accuracy, language fluency and scientific reasoning.
To those who have completed the course study and teaching practice, obtained the required credits and accomplished the dissertation and the final defense, the degree-conferring unit will award the master degree in International Chinese Education and the master degree certificate.
